Carnival Cruise Line has announced that their cruise ships will begin returning to Key West, Florida this week.
The first Carnival cruise ship that will return to Key West will be Carnival Victory on Tuesday, September 26. Carnival Paradise will be in Key West the following day and the cruise line will resume normally scheduled stops to the port by the middle of the week.
The first ship to return to Key West after the destruction left by Hurricane Irma was Empress of the Seas on Sunday. Key West announced late last week that the island has officially reopened to tourists.
Now that Key West has reopened to cruise ships, several popular ports in the Caribbean remain closed due to hurricane damage. The ports that remain closed are St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Grand Turk, and San Juan. San Juan was tentatively scheduled to reopen this coming week for cruises that originate out of the port but that plan has been pushed back at least another week. A timetable has not yet been given when cruise ships will begin making day stops in San Juan.
