AIDA Cruises, Carnival Corporation’s German cruise line, christened AIDAnova in front of 250,000 spectators at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. The Mirza family was selected in a contest to serve as the godparents to the ship.
At 180,000 gross tons, the cruise ship is the largest ever built by Carnival Corporation. The ship is powered by LNG and is not only the first of three for AIDA, but the first of many ordered by Carnival.
Other Carnival brands including Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Costa Cruises all have 180,000 gross ton cruise ships on order. The cruise ships will carry around 6,600 passengers at maximum capacity and will be powered by LNG.
