Viking has announced a new 19-day itinerary in Egypt that combines a two-week cruise on the all-suite Viking Ra with four nights in a hotel in Cairo.

This new itinerary, The Grand Nile Journey, will launch in 2028 and will be Viking’s most extensive journey offered in Egypt. Guests will be able to visit the country’s renowned landmarks alongside lesser-visited archaeological sites and communities in Middle Egypt, gaining a deeper understanding of the history, culture, and traditions that have shaped life along the Nile.
The trip, which starts off in Cairo, will feature 17 guided tours. The time in Egypt will allow guests to visit the Great Pyramids in Giza, the Great Sphinx, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
This longer itinerary will allow guests to visit lesser-visited archeological sites along with the bucket-list sites that have been preserved for thousands of years.
The cruise will take guests through the heart of Middle Egypt, where they will have the opportunity to visit the following historic sites:
- Meidum Pyramid
- Noblemen’s Tombs of Beni Hasan
- Tell el-Amarna
- Deir el-Muharraq monastery
- Royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings
- Temple of Seti I at Abydos
- Luxor Temple
- Karnak Temple
- Aswan and the temple complex of Philae

Guests will also have the option of extending their trip with pre- and post-land excursions in Morocco and Jordan.
Viking has been adding new river cruise ships on the Nile River over the past several years. Their 12-day Pyramids & Pharaohs itinerary is one of the cruise line’s most popular cruises.
Leah Talactac, President and Chief Executive Officer of Viking, said the following about this new itinerary:
“Egypt has captivated travelers for generations, and we believe there is always more to discover. At Viking, we design our itineraries for curious travelers who want to gain a deeper understanding of the places they visit. Our new Grand Nile Journey reflects that approach, giving guests more time to explore Egypt and experience the many layers of its history and culture.”
Viking Ra is an all-suite ship that accommodates just 52 guests in 26 suites. It was custom-built to navigate the Nile River and features Viking’s trademark Scandinavian design.
Viking currently operates a fleet of 10 river ships on the Nile and will be adding two more in 2028.
