Cruise Lines Building Five New Terminals in Miami

Cruise lines are building at least five new cruise terminals at the Cruise Capital of the World, PortMiami.

Each year, millions of cruise passengers pass through PortMiami on 22 different cruise lines and 55 cruise ships. Here is a look at the new cruise terminals being built by Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Virgin Voyages, and Disney Cruise Line.

Norwegian Cruise Line – Terminal B (2020)

Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Terminal B will open in early 2020.  Terminal B will offer a warm and welcoming arrival for guests, a new parking garage and valet parking area with direct access to the terminal, and will streamline the entire arrival and departure process for more efficiency.

At nearly 166,500 square feet, the Norwegian terminal will accommodate cruise ships of up to 5,000 passengers. It will also feature state-of-the-art technology to support faster and more efficient embarkation and disembarkation, as well as expedited security screening and luggage check-in.

Terminal B from Norwegian Cruise Line will cost $239 million.

Virgin Voyages – Terminal V (2021)

Virgin Voyages is building a cruise terminal at the northwest side of PortMiami. At a cost of $180 million, the terminal will be home to Virgin’s first cruise ship, Scarlet Lady.

Terminal V is expected to open in 2021 and cost $180 million to build.

MSC Cruises – Terminals AA and AAA (2022)

The two new PortMiami terminals will be capable of hosting two mega cruise ships at the same time, each with a capacity of up to 7,000 guests. This will allow the cruise line to conduct two turnaround operations simultaneously and handle up to 28,000 passenger movements per day.

The terminals will be able to accommodate the 200,000 gross ton World class cruise ships that MSC is building.

MSC Cruises will also move their headquarters to the terminals when it opens in late 2022. The project is expected to cost $300 million.

Carnival Cruise Line – Terminal F (2022)

Carnival Cruise Line was been approved for a complete renovation and major expansion of Cruise Terminal F at PortMiami that will be capable of supporting the operations of Carnival’s new Excel class ship – clearing the way for the yet-to-be-named sister ship of Mardi Gras to be homeported in Miami when it is delivered in 2022.

Carnival Cruise Line is the largest cruise operator in Miami with more year-round ships sailing from PortMiami than any other cruise line. The redesigned Terminal F will allow Carnival to continue to be the leader in the market, accommodating not only its largest and newest class of ship, but also allowing the line to bring its next LNG ship to south Florida.

The estimated cost of the renovated terminal is $170 million.

Disney Cruise Line – Terminal K (TBD)

Disney Cruise Line has signed an MOU with PortMiami to expand with two cruise ships and a possible new cruise terminal. The new facility would be located on the south side of the port, to the east of existing Terminal J. It will allow Disney to homeport vessels carrying more than 3,500 passengers.
