Princess Cruises new cruise ship, the Regal Princess, successfully completed sea trails this week as construction on the cruise ship nears completion. The 3,600 passenger ship will begin sailing to the Mediterranean on May 20, 2014 when the vessel departs from Venice, Italy.
The Regal Princess spent 5 days at sea near the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy testing the ship’s steering, propulsion, and navigation equipment. After passing with flying colors, the ship is now back in the shipyard as workers put the finishing touches on the 141,000 ton vessel.
The Regal Princess will be the 18th ship in the Princess fleet and is the sister ship of the Royal Princess which debuted last summer. The ships will share similar features such as the Seawalk, expanded Piazza, and the popular TV studio Princess Live.
After spending the next 6 months sailing to the Mediterranean, the Regal Princess will then join the Royal Princess and sail week long cruises out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to the Caribbean.
The 7 night cruises will stop in the ports of Princess Cays, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.; and St. Maarten. Cruises fares start at $649 per person for the week long cruises.
There will be one 3 night cruise when the Regal first arrives in Ft. Lauderdale in November. The cruise will make one stop in Princess Cays and fares are as low as $299 per person.
