Serenade of the Seas Departs After Being Delayed From Water Pipe Bursting

Update: The Serenade of the Seas left New Orleans early Sunday afternoon and will sail a shortened six night cruise to the Bahamas.  Passengers who had their cruise canceled will receive a full refund and a future cruise certificate equal to their cruise fare.

A broken water pipe shorting out an electric switchboard is being blamed for a partial power loss on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas.

Max Power, a passenger who is currently doing back to back to back cruises on the Serenade of the Seas, first reported of the incident on the Facebook group “Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Society”.  Heavy rain was first blamed for the switch board being shorted out but it is now being blamed on a broken water pipe above the theater according to Max.

The front of the ship was without power early on Saturday morning.  Due to the damage from the broken water pipe, 400 passengers who were scheduled to board the ship in New Orleans today will not be able to board.

  1. RCCL Senior Guest Services Officer promised my wife and I a full refund after finally getting to board only to be stuck on board for a miserable night with absolutely no heat in our room. We asked to disembark and were told we were not allowed as the ship had to be moved down river away from the port to allow other ship traffic. We were promised by RCCL if we would just stay aboard we would be compensated for with a full refund for this cruise and a 25% off another cruise. THEY DID NOT DELIVER AND NOW WE ARE TOLD THEY HAD NO INTENTION OF DOING SO. If anyone was promised the same thing, please post here. If you were lucky enough to get bumped from this terrible cruise…..YOU WERE EXTREMELY LUCKY. I hope you have gotten what you were promised. This was our first cruise ever and any future cruises will NOT BE WITH RCCL, THAT’S FOR SURE. It appears they are such a large corporation, they have no intention of taking care of just a few customers.

  2. My husband and I were on the ‘no-go’ list. We were told to wait for our hotel information because we were not able to get a flight out the day we were supposed to sail. So we waited, waited and waited in the outlet mall above the terminal. We sat and watched as others got to board. It was very disappointing watching as those who got to go board the ship. If what Malynda says is true, then I’m glad we didn’t go. We take cruises for the amenities and if they were not available then it would have been very disappointing also. After waiting till 5:00pm for hotel information, as we were told to do, my husband went down to the terminal and heard over the loud speaker to just go ahead and get a hotel on your own and then submit a receipt. Very frustrating! I’ve submitted all my receipts for all of our travel and hotels along with a letter stating our disappointment to RCCL for reimbursement. Yes, there are worse things in life that can happen, but when you’ve planned for your vacation for almost a year and to have it all fizzle out in just a matter of minutes is very disheartening. I hope RCCL does the right thing and gives everyone who didn’t get to go a free cruise with upgrades and full reimbursements.

  3. My parents got on after waiting in line 5 hours. After boarding last night they were told they were to late for food and if they wanting anything they would have to wait in another buffet line. No TV, gym, spa, theatre, and also not leaving. Have been redocked and now just sitting looking at an old factory. May have been better if they never got on.

  4. As an ALMOST first time cruise with the cruise line, I was extremely disappointed by the lack of information that was provided by the personnel. This trip was to be a 25th Anniversary present for my wife and I. We arrived on time and spent until 7:00 pm waiting and hoping for a last minute update for ANY vacancy. The personnel were extremely vague in their information. This could have been worked better for everyone had they only provided timely informational updates. Even the offerings will make it a tough decision whether or not to take a cruise with this company.
