Virgin Voyages Gives More Details on Halloween Cruise Canceled for Private Charter

Last week, passengers who booked a Virgin Voyages sailing for October 2027 began sharing details about the voyage being canceled to make room for a charter.

Now, Virgin Voyages has shared additional details about the Halloween cruise on Brilliant Lady.

Originally set to depart from Los Angeles on October 30, 2027, the 7-night Mexican Riviera itinerary was canceled to make way for a private full-ship charter.  We don’t have any word yet on what company or event is running the charter sailing.

The cruise line acknowledged the inconvenience for passengers who had already planned their vacations a year ahead of time and gave some options to try to make things right.

Three Options for Impacted Sailors

Guests who were booked on the canceled October 30, 2027 sailing have three main options for their cruise plans:

• Rebook a Similar Cruise: Switch to any other seven-night Mexican Riviera cruise departing from Los Angeles between September 18 and November 13, 2027. Virgin Voyages is price-protecting original fares and honoring any promotions attached to the initial booking.
• Try a Shorter Itinerary: Virgin is reworking the following week’s schedule into two shorter back-to-back cruises (a 3-night and a 4-night option). Guests can apply their existing payments directly to these new sailings.
• Get a Full Refund: Cancel the reservation entirely for a 100% refund processed back to the original payment method.

Also, any guests who would just like to move their booking to a replacement sailing will receive $100 in onboard credit (Sailor Loot) as compensation.

So, while the sailing they booked is no longer an option, guests can either start over, or shift plans to something else without any penalty.

Discounts and Booking Certificates

While Virgin Voyages is offering price protection on base cruise fares, some travelers on Reddit have had concerns about pre-paid discounts and promotional vouchers.

Those who paid upfront to take advantage of Virgin’s standard 10% Pay-in-Full discount have wondered if that discount applies if they change their booking parameters or request a refund.

Guests who booked using “My Next Virgin Voyage” (MNVV) deposit certificates or secondary vouchers are advised to check directly with customer service or their travel agent.

Recent Itinerary Adjustments

This cancellation comes after some other recent schedule changes for Brilliant Lady on the West Coast. Bad weather conditions recently forced the cruise line to reroute an October 2026 sailing away from planned stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta, replacing them with visits to San Francisco, San Diego, and Ensenada instead.

Limited-Time Onboard Credit Deal

Virgin Voyages has just launched a new limited-time offer running from October 23 through October 29, 2026. Available on 148 select 5- to 9-night sailings departing between October 2026 and October 2028 across all four ships, the promotion provides up to $300 in onboard credit for RockStar Suites and up to $50 for Sea Terrace cabins.

The credit can be used toward shore excursions, spa treatments, specialty drinks, and retail shops.
