All it took was a change on NYC’s cruise port schedule page, and the powder keg was lit. But what does it mean, and is New York really getting a Disney ship in the near future?

The last time a Disney Cruise Line vessel called New York City home was about three years ago. And if the buzz surrounding recent rumors means anything, residents of the Big Apple are ready for a comeback.
Rumors about the cruise line’s return are sweeping through social media accounts right now, with a recent Reddit thread racking up hundreds of comments already.
What Started the Rumors
First, online sleuths noticed the main header photo for the port’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal website showed a Disney ship docked. It’s an older photo, but online users are still calling it “a clue”.
But the main reason for the buzz is a brand-new update to the port’s official berthing calendar search filters.
If you go to filter by “Parent Company,” Disney has suddenly appeared as a selectable option. Cruisers who track these schedules religiously noted that the option wasn’t there just ten days ago.
Also, if you click on the dropdown for ships, the names of Disney Dream, Disney Magic, and Disney Treasure populate.
What it Could Mean
When a cruise line appears on a public port filter like this without bookable dates yet, it sometimes means the groundwork is being done behind the scenes (sometimes).
Cruise lines still have to negotiate and secure these slots with city port authorities years in advance before they can legally sell the cruises to the public. And with more cruise ships than ever there’s a lot of scheduling to juggle.
Keep in mind that Disney has not made any official announcements about this and it’s all just speculation right now.

Why the Timing Sorta Makes Sense
Disney hasn’t sailed out of Manhattan since autumn 2023, when Disney Dream ran a handful of itineraries to Bermuda and Canada.
But things are different now. Disney Cruise Line is in the middle of a fleet expansion that will bring them to 13 ships by about 2031.
With new ships like Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure entering the mix, the cruise line has some the breathing room and capacity to return to regional “drive-to” ports.
And don’t forget Disney Believe that is scheduled to debut in late 2027.
When you have more ships, you need more places to put them, and you want to put them where you get the most bang for your buck. New York City is an absolute goldmine of loyal Disney Cruise Line fans.
Although, some comments showed skepticism, with one saying “they had trouble selling NYC cruise departures .. ships almost never filled.”
Excitement from the Disney Community
For the most part, comments about this rumor were positive. The Reddit thread is full of excited comments from cruisers hoping for a Disney return to New York.
Many mentioned how convenient it would be compared to flying to Florida. One commenter shared: “Would love for them to return to NY! Or NJ or PA. Anything so I don’t have to fly out before the cruise and spend extra money on flight + hotel.”
Another said: “Flying to FL to get our Disney cruise fix has not been fun for the past few years!!”
One New Yorker captured the excitement perfectly: “As a New Yorker, my heart just skipped a beat. I haven’t been this excited about anything in a long time.”
One person said, “I would book so fast if this happens.”
If the online buzz is any kind of indicator, it shows just how much demand there is from the local cruising community for a convenient Disney departure port.
Where Disney Operates Now
Looking at Disney’s current official schedule over the next couple years, Florida still gets the vast majority of their sailings.
Port Canaveral leads the pack with 273 scheduled cruises, and Fort Lauderdale comes in second with 139.
Outside of Florida, Disney is keeping things busy in Singapore with 119 sailings, followed by San Diego (61), Vancouver (57), and Galveston (33).
The rest of their schedule is rounded out by smaller seasonal runs in Europe, like Southampton (21), Barcelona (7), and Rome (3), plus 2 sailings out of San Juan.
For residents of the Northeast United States, a convenient Disney ship to hop on nearby would be a gamechanger.
For now, remember to take this with a slight grain of salt, or maybe a whole saltshaker for all we know.
Port websites can sometimes run layout tests, use placeholder data, or experience glitches. Until Disney pushes the big red button and announces their future schedules, nothing is set in stone, and this is all hearsay.
But hey, we can hope right?
