A $25 Million overhaul was not just enough for cruise ship Crystal Serenity to win over its passengers, but it also got the attention of interior designers as well.  In fact, this is the seventh time that Crystal Cruises’ biggest ship has won an award since the complete re-design.

Hospitality Design Magazine has bestowed another award on the cruise ship with the “Judge’s Award for Distinctive Cruise Design”.   And for the magazine this is a first.  It’s the first time the publication has given an award to a cruise line, but hopefully there will be many more awards given to cruise ships down the road.

As you may know, cruise passengers are discerning guests who appreciate more than just good food and great entertainment on a cruise ship.  An elegant and cozy design help give the cruising experience an atmosphere that can’t be matched with any other type of vacation.

The readers of the Conde Nast Traveler have given the Serenity their highest accolades as well, and some have called it the best cruise ship in the world, which goes against a common misconception that only the largest cruise ships in the world can be worthy of such praises.  But then again, this is a cruise line that puts its emphasis on luxury and on putting every cruise passenger first.

The ship was built in 2003 and weighs in at just under 70,000 tons.  The facelift the Serenity received in 2011 included new lighting, carpet, furnishings, and a totally new look to the staterooms.

If you are looking for a new and improved cruise ship to check out, you may want to check out the Crystal Serenity as its specialty is catering to passengers who want to be pampered.  At the same time it may be too high society for some, and it caters to a more elderly audience.

Crystal has just two ships right now: Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, and in 2012 you can find cruises on the Serenity that sail to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, New England, Europe, and the Panama Canal.

In just a week this ship will be going on a transatlantic journey, but don’t expect to find a luxurious cruise for a budget price.  Most of the cruises from Crystal will set you back an average of $3,000 – $5,000.
