June 1 brought the start of the 2011 hurricane season. Hurricanes can have many different affects on a cruise. Some cruises experience roughly seas and others have to change ports to stay clear of the storm. The National Hurricane Center has issued it’s outlook for 2011. Across the Atlantic Basin, the NOAA is predicting 12-18 named storms (winds of at last 39 mph), 6-10 possible hurricanes (winds of at least 74 mphs), and 3-6 major hurricanes (winds of at least 111 mph). This outlook is higher than a normal season. For more details about the National Hurricane Center, please visit their website.
