Off the coast of Virginia, the Norwegian Jewel crusiers saw a medevac helicopter land on the ship to medevac a woman and her husband on Friday night.
The Jewel was 115 miles east of Cape Henry when the US Coast Guard made a successful landing and medevac rescue for the couple. The 47 year old woman was taken to Norfolk hospital with reports of abdominal pain.
The Coast Guard from Elizabeth City, North Carolina was dispatched and had the couple in the chopper within 2 hours, and there is no word yet as to the woman’s condition.
We found a video from www.cruisenewsdaily.com that shows the rescue taking place. You can see that the cruise ship did not slow down to aid in the rescue, but the helicopter matched the speed of the Norwegian Jewel and lowered the stetcher to lift the woman into the chopper.
The cruise passengers were able to witness the medevac taking place but they did not skip a beat with the timeliness of the cruise schedule.
