Royal Caribbean Testing Policy Change on Unlimited Beverage Packages

Royal Caribbean is testing a policy change for passengers who purchase the all-inclusive Deluxe Beverage Package on their newest and largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas.

Gina Kramer at Cruise Critic is reporting that on select sailings (September 30 through November 18, 2017) on Harmony of the Seas, all passengers 21 years and older in a stateroom will be required to purchase the beverage package if one person in the stateroom chooses to purchase it.

While this is standard practice on most mainstream cruise lines, Royal Caribbean currently does not require that everyone in a stateroom 21 years and older purchase the Deluxe Beverage Package if one of their cabin mates does.

While the sharing of drinks is not allowed, many cruisers brag on social media about breaking this rule.

The Deluxe Beverage Package costs $55 per day (plus gratuity). The package must be purchased for the entire length of the cruise and includes the following:

  • Cocktails, spirits, liquor, and beer
  • Bottled still and sparking water
  • Wines by the glass
  • Fresh squeezed juices
  • Non-alcoholic cocktails
  • Premium coffees and teas
  • Fountain sodas/Coca Cola Freestyle beverages
  • Coca-Cola souvenir cup

All single beverages up to $12 per item are included.  For drinks over $12, guests will be required to pay the difference in price.  Guests will also receive a 40% discount on bottled wines up to $100 and a 20% discount on wines priced above $100.

  1. My daughter who travels with us is the only one who drinks. I myself don’t but an occasional drink which I am happy to purchase one at a time and my husband is a reformed alcoholic. I have never asked my daughter to get me a drink on her package or even took a sip. I feel it is unfair that some people have made it difficult for others by being dishonest they don’t deserve to cruise (don’t care if it makes someone mad). I don’t blame the cruise line in some ways because they make a lot of their revenue from drinks. I think they ought to go back to drinks per each problem solved.

  2. Not fair to those of us who have a spouse that doesn’t drink at all..

Not even coke…he drinks coffee and water..

That’s why I don’t drink at all on Carnival. ..I can’t buy for just me

  3. When they first came out with the drink package it was this way, and eventually they changed it. This has worked out great for me and my wife, because she doesn’t drink much, so we pay-as-you-go for her drinks. Like everything, a few A-holes who can’t afford it ruin it for the rest of us. If you can’t pay for your vacation, stay home.

  4. This sucks, why should I pay to not drink if someone else does? Just another way to suck up money and chase people to other venues of vacation. This is not fair. Will undue my cruise if you leave this idea. Why should I pay for drinks I dont do.???????????

  5. That sucks! I don’t drink alcohol but my partner does. Shouldn’t have to pay for something that I won’t be using.

  6. This doesn’t seem right! One person may drink and the other doesn’t! Looks like this will hurt drink sales on the ship.

  7. I’m not a liquor or beer drinker and I would probably have like 2 glasses of wine the whole trip so I would have an issue with this if it became the norm. I would just have to be careful who I share a room with and have the discussion before Hand.
