When Royal Caribbean launched Oasis of the Seas in 2009, the cruise ship instantly became the standard by which all future mega ships are measured.
At 225,000 gross tons, Oasis of the Seas was nearly 50% larger than any other cruise ship at sea when the ship made its debut. Holding over 6,000 passengers at maximum occupancy, Oasis of the Seas brought new features to the cruise industry like the incredible Boardwalk and Central Park neighborhoods.
The Boardwalk is my favorite park of the ship and Oasis was the first ship to have a split aft section. This gives cruisers the option of booking a balcony either overlooking the ocean or over the Boardwalk area. Inspired after Coney Island, there are several places to grab a bite to eat (Johnny Rockets, Sabor), shop, or get a drink.
No Boardwalk would be complete without a carousel and Oasis of the Seas has one as soon as you walk on the Boardwalk.
However, the most impressive part of the Boardwalk is the Aqua Theater. Containing the deepest pool at sea, the nightly diving and water shows are among the most incredible performances you will find on any cruise ship.

Central Park, located in the middle of the ship, is filled with thousands of plants and trees that makes you forget that you are even on a cruise ship. There are quiet benches to sit on, several restaurants that offer indoor and outdoor dining, and even has a few high end shops.
The massive Promenade is the center of activity on the ship. Hosting everything from the Dreamworks parade to nightly parties, it’s the perfect place to socialize or grab a cup of coffee.
Entertainment Place is the nightly hub of entertainment that includes a comedy club, the casino, and even an ice skating rink in Studio B with nightly shows.
Moving up to the pool deck, the adults only Solarium is an absolute oasis at the front of the ship and the perfect spot to kick back and relax on sea days.
There are four different pool areas on Oasis of the Seas and every pool now has a lifeguard whenever they are open.
The kids area has its own waterpark.
Oasis of the Seas even has a large basketball court.
There are two Flowrider surf simulators located at the aft of the ship.
There is also a fun mini golf course up on the top deck.
I think you might have overlooked the SS Norway. Have a look at it’s history from back in 1979. That’s a ship that really changed cruising.
