One way to cruise free: Enrichment Lecture

If you don’t mind trading your talents and a few hours during the cruise week in exchange for free passage to a wonderful vacation on board a luxury ship then you will want to read this article.  You should keep in mind that you will not always be able to get completely free cruises, but you will be able to book them with HUGE discounts that are much better than any deals you can find online.

Cruise lines have the tremendous job of keeping all of their passengers happy while they are on their cruise.  This is a lot easier to do when they are stopping at exotic ports where passengers will spend a good part of their day off the ship.  But during sea days, cruise lines need a little help offering everyone on board something they are interested in.  This is where these enrichment programs come in.

You may be surprised to know that many of these onboard activities and lectures are done by outside people and not by someone on staff for the cruise line.  One key thing that you need to do in order to get involved in the enrichment programs so you can get your cheap cruise is commit your time to the cruise line.  Usually this is only about an hour a day on sea day, but each ship has a different schedule.

Also, most of these outside contractors get to bring along a companion aboard the ship for free as well, so you don’t have to travel alone when getting involved these cruise ship enrichment programs.

So are you willing to trade some of your talents and knowledge for a free cruise?  Here are some “jobs” that people can do on cruise ships to get free or cheap passage.  This is a typical list and there are other things you can do that are not listed here, but this should get the wheels turning a little bit.

Enrichment Lecture:  This is the most common way to get a free cruise and the topics can vary.  Most of the time contracted staff will do a lecture on places of interest around the globe or vacation tips for that particular cruise, but they also allow lectures on topics of general interest.  If you know a lot about something that people are interested in you can always bring it up with the cruise line.

Arts and Crafts Instructors: Almost every ship will have some sort of arts and crafts lesson at some point during the cruise.  You can do anything from simple crafts to more advanced, but the more popular your craft is the more people will be interested in showing up to your lesson, and the more inclined the cruise ship is to hire you.

Dance Instructors: This one is also fairly common and some people want to learn a certain dance technique while on board the ship so they can impress their friends when they go back home.  Obviously, you should be fairly adept with the dance technique you are trying to teach and be pretty light on your feet.

Bridge Players: Why not get paid to play a game you enjoy?  If you enjoy playing bridge you will need to open a few slots during the week to exchange your time for a cruise.  Often your partner may have to hop in some games as well to have enough people.  Cruisers enjoy an occasional game like Bridge or other types, so offering your services can both be fun and beneficial.

Computer Instructors: It’s better to pick a specific topic about computers and then teach a class on it.  You can choose topics like using Microsoft Word, Excel, Facebook, or anything else about computers that a lot of people want to know about.

Photography Classes:  If you know a lot about cameras and photography why not have a lecture on how to use a camera?  After all, most people on that boat are going to want to take a lot of pictures on their cruise, and any tips you can give them would be very helpful.

As I said, the list could go on and on, but this should help give you an idea of what is possible in order to get a free cruise vacation.  It might seem like a working vacation since you have to put some time in, but most people find it a lot of fun to be able to teach others something and interact with other cruisers.

A guy named Daniel Hall has cruised all around the world by helping cruise lines with the enrichment programs.  Now he is teaching other people how to do the same thing and save thousands on their vacations.

He calls his program “8 Easy Steps to a Lifetime of Free Cruises”, and you can check it out at the link below:

  1. I’ve been doing cruise ship speaking for 4 years and can assure anyone who thinks this is a way to get a free and easy vacation that you are wrong. The PowerPoints alone – and you need anywhere from 4 to 7 for a cruise – take months of preparation. If you’re speaking about any topic other than your life experiences, you really need to know your stuff and that may take additional research – even if it is your field. Then on the ship, you still spend time going over your talks, making sure all the slides are in order, etc. Your guest may have a great vacation but you’re working!
