10 Impressive Features on Carnival’s Largest Cruise Ship, Carnival Vista

Carnival Cruise Line’s newest and largest cruise ship, Carnival Vista, is sailing year-round to the Caribbean from PortMiami.  I recently had the opportunity to take a six night cruise to the Western Caribbean on this ship and here are 10 impressive features that Carnival Vista offers.

IMAX/Thrill Theater – I admit, I was a bit skeptical at first of an IMAX being on a cruise ship but I just had to try it out.  The picture and sound quality blew me away.  The 4D Thrill Theater was also a ton of fun and is a must do when sailing on Carnival Vista.

Al Fresco Dining – You don’t cruise to the Caribbean to stay inside, you cruise to the Caribbean to enjoy the ocean breeze as you sail from island to island.  Carnival Vista offers outdoor dining at multiple venues including Bonsai Sushi, Guy’s Pig and Anchor, Guy’s Burger Joint, Seafood Shack, Blue Iguana, Cherry on Top, and the steakhouse, Fahrenheit 555.

Havana Area – Located at the aft of the ship, the Havana area is an oasis away from the busy Lido Deck that has a pool with two hot tubs overlooking the ship’s wake.   They were virtually empty on sea days but before 7 pm, only guests staying in a Havana cabin can access this area.

Atrium – The unique LED centerpiece sets the mood with changing visuals and is unlike anything found on any other cruise ship.

Waterslides/Waterpark – Carnival Vista offers a waterpark that is fun for all ages and is the perfect place to cool off on a sea day. The Kaleid-O-Slide is a 455 foot long water tube slide that offers kaleidoscopic visual effects as you slide through a series of twists and turns.

SkyRide – This was another feature I was skeptical about until I gave it a try.  The SkyRide is a pedal powered open air attraction that offers panoramic views 150 feet over the sea.  The views were stunning and can be seen in the video below starting at the 2:00 mark.

Food Options – Everywhere we went on Carnival Vista, we came across a place we can grab a bite to eat.  One day, I counted at least 10 different places where you could have lunch.  From complimentary options to specialty restaurants, there was an awesome variety of choices for food.

Number of Intimate Spaces – One thing that we loved about Carnival Vista was the number of smaller intimate spaces and lounges instead of larger areas.  This kept the ship from feeling crowded and meant that you could also find a quiet place to sit and relax.

Photo Gallery – Yes, the photo gallery made my list of 10 most impressive features on Carnival Vista.  The photo gallery is 100% digital, meaning there is zero waste from printing out thousands of pictures that people don’t buy.  You select your photos on the huge touch screens that they have and pick out the ones that you want to buy.

Buffet Area – From the layout and design to the music, the buffet area on Carnival Vista is a nice change of pace from Carnival’s previous cruise ships.

Bonus – I would be remiss if I did not talk about the cruise director on our cruise, Matt Mitcham. The guy was literally everywhere and I have never seen a more visible cruise director on any cruise.

Note: I was a guest of Carnival Cruise Line but opinions and thoughts expressed in this article are 100% my own.

  1. Carnival Vista was the WORST ship we have ever been on!!! My husband wanted to celebrate his 60th birthday on the Vista! It was EXTREMELY disappointing from start to finish!!! Yes it is BIG and YES it is New but Carnival failed to take into consideration that big is NOt always better!! They might have an IMAX theater but it takes up so much space that every other bar and theater rooms are small and packed like sardines IF you can get in at all!!!! There was NO WOW factor anywhere on ship!!!!!
Horrible experience and we will not be cruising on Carnival for pushing the truth about their ” newest and biggest” ship!! Because that’s the only truth about it!!!!
Everyone we talked with on the ship felt the same except the 1 st time cruisers………. they had NOTHING to compare.
