All Caribbean Based Royal Caribbean Ships to Have High Speed Internet by 2016

Tired of the slow, expensive internet connections at sea?  Royal Caribbean is planning on rolling out their high speed Voom internet to every ship in their fleet that sails to the Caribbean by mid 2016 according to trade blog RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com.

Currently, Voom is available on the largest ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, the Oasis (Oasis of the Seas. Allure of the Seas) and Quantum (Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas) class ships.

Voom allows for land-like type internet speeds at a cost of only $15 per day (per device when purchasing multiple days) with a discount for additional users and devices.  This is a huge change from the expensive and slow internet connections that passengers are accustomed to having while at sea.

Royal Caribbean rolled out Voom on Quantum of the Seas when the ship debuted in late 2015.  While on Quantum of the Seas in November, the service lived up to expectations as I was able to upload and stream videos (YouTube) without any problems.  The internet is fast enough to stream movies, Skype, Facetime, or use any other service that offers video chat.  Basic internet usage (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, web surfing etc) was fast offered a similar experience to being on land.

  1. How will Royal Caribbean get the infrastructure needed for this technology on the rest (entire) of the fleet that they will all have it come Spring 2016?

  2. I think its a wonderful and this should have happened long time ago. Passengers on cruises always need to touch based with land and in most cases now most communications are done via the internet.
